    The cotton gin was an invention that was for picking cotton seeds. The hope was that it would decrease slavery. But it increased it and made slavery boom. This made slaves more productive and could make more money. This increased slavery in the south.

    The Missouri compromise was to make Missouri a slave state and make Maine a free state. The problem with it was that there were no sales above the 30 36 line and Missouri was above that line. This caused problems because Missouri wanted slaves but couldn't which made the south mad.

    Nat turner was a man that went from plantation to plantation stealing guns horses and freeing slaves. This was bad for the south and the north loved in because he was helping free slaves.

    The mexican war was the war we fought for texas. When we won the war we got a lot of other land as well. This caused problems with the free and slave states. This really split up the country and made the north and south argue more than it ever had before.

    This was an act that the south passed to get slaves that ran away back. This meant that the south would send the military in to get back slaves back form the free states. The north didn't like this because they didn't want slavery so the slaves that were free they didn't want them to go back.

    Uncle tom's cabin was a book wrote by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It was an anti-slavery novel that "helped lay the groundwork for the Civil War". this book showed the trouble and the horrible thing that happened to the slaves in the slave trade and there troubles that they went to to get free.

    He was an American who believed that god sent him to free the slaves. He tried to arm the slaves and overthrow the institution of slavery in the United States. This mad the slave owner in the south scared and they wanted him dead.
