    Kansas was between free states and slave states so it was the location of many battles, which is why it is known as Bleeding Kansas.

    These were debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas over the Illinois senate seat. Lincoln lost but it was significant because it made Lincoln known around the nation which ultimately helped him win the presidential election.

Yet, the Confederate army still won this battle. Some say this was the official start of the civil war because it was when the union retaliated.

    Harpers Ferry, in what is now West Virginia, was a spot in which some battle took place during the Civil War. Most notably the John Brown raid.

    The battle of Antietam is significant because it was the cloodiest battle in the Civil War. Some historians consider it a draw but it is significant because very soon after this Lincoln released the Emancipation proclamation.

    Lincoln's speech that day now known as the Gettysburg address is now one of the most famous speeched in history. In the speech he addressed human equality and connected the civil war with the need for the rebirth of freedom.

    The Andersonville prison was the Confederate prison. The treatment of the prisoners there was very poor and they treated the black prisoners worse which the Union did not like.

    John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln at Fords theater in Washington, D.C. This came only five days after the Confederate army surrendered. This was significant because Lincoln was such a big part of the war and of trying to keep the United States together.
