  • 1866

    The Civil Rights Act of 1866 was the first US federal law that stated all citizens are equaly protected by the law.
  • 1871

    The Civil Rights Act of 1871 prohibited ethnic violence against African Americans. It was passed to protect blacks from the KKK.
  • 1875

    The Civil Rights Act of 1875 prohibited discrimination in public accommodations. However the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional in 1883.
  • 1957

    The Civil Rights Act of 1957 established the Civil Rights Commission. The Act ended offical racial segragation in public schools
  • 1960

    The Civil Rights Act of 1960 established federal inspection of local voter registration rolls and introduced pentalties if someone obstructed the right to register or vote.
  • 1964

    The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibited discrimination based on race, color, religon, sex, and national origin by federal and state goverments.
  • 1965

    The Civil Rights Act of 1965 was designated to enforce voting rights given by the 14th and 15th Amendments
  • 1968

    The Civil Rights Act of 1968 prohibited descrimination in the sale, rental, or financing of housing
