    Plessy v. Ferguson

    Upheld that racism was constitutionally allowed and created the "separate but equal" ideals.
  • NAACP Formation

    NAACP Formation

    The NAACP, or National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, was created as an organization that sought protection and equal rights to colored people and have worked for centuries to push their ideals onto the next generation.

    The rights of citizens to vote shall not be abridged by the context of sex. Women given the right to vote.

    Executive Order 9981

    The ban of segregation or discrimination in the armed forces on the basis or sex, race, or religion.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education

    Under a unanimous decision, the supreme court decided segregation in the schooling system was unconstitutional.

    Emmett Till was a 14 year old who was beaten and assaulted to death on the basis of his race, and a small action which he committed. His story was basis for a change in the legal and ethical systems of America.

    After the arrest of Rosa Parks, many political leaders for the rights of African Americans stood up against the segregation and began a year long boycott of the Montgomery public transit system.

    The first Civil Rights Act passed in over 80 years, creating a Civil Rights Division in the Department of Justice and persecuting against those who violated the right to vote for any American Citizen.

    A series of non-violent protest against segregation, where-in African Americans sat in restaurants and waited for someone to take their order, something seemingly tame but presented the owners with many problems.

    An American-Latino Activist present throughout the Civil Rights Movement and after, co-creating the National Farm Workers Association, and aiding the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee and the United Farm Workers Labor Union.

    March On Washington

    A large gathering of Civil Right Protester, gathered by many significant figures of the time, talking on the current state of Civil Rights. It's prominent for its setting, being on the steps toward the Lincoln Memorial, memorializing the man who brought about the change seen today and for the memorable "I have a dream" speech given by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
