Topeka, Kansas
A parent of one of the students filed this case because his/her child was denied acess to one of Topeka's white schools.
It ended segragation in public schools. -
Georgia State Flag
The date on the flag was changed from 1799 to 1776.
1956 - 2001 : The flag is changed again to the confederate flag.
January 31 : Governor Roy Barnes signes a bill to change the design of the flag because the last one hurt Georgia's economy.

Student Nonviolent Cordinating Committee
It was established at a student eeting in Shaw University that was organized by Ella Baker on April 1960. 4 colledge students who were segregated at Woolworth's store,led peaceful boycots/protests and 6 months they were served at the same place. -
Albany Movement
Began in the fall of 1961 and ended in the summe rof 1962.
During this time thousands of African Americans were arrested, one of them being Martin Luther King Jr..
He later leaves Albany saying that the goal* of the Movement was not accomplished. *To get voting rights to all African Americans. -
March on Washington
More than 200,000 Americans gathered in Washington D.C. for the March on washington for Jobs and freedom.
Martin Luther King Jr. also presented his famous speech "I Have A Dream" on this date. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
It ended segregation in public places and employment discrimination. The Civil Rights Act was first proposed by president john F. Kennedy. It helped African Americans acheave equality. -
Voting Rights Act of 1965
The Voting Rights Act was signed by President Lyndon Johnson on August 6, 1965, since legal barriers stopped them even after the 15th Ammandment.
At the time when some tried to lead peaceful protests the state troopers would attack them with nightsticks, tear gas, and whips. -
Lester Maddox
In 1957 lester Maffox enters politics and tries to run for mayor many times and everytime he was defeated.
Finally in 1966 he defeats Ellis Arnoll in a run-off. -
Andrew Young

Election of Maynard Jackson
In 1973, Maynard was the first African - American to be elected in a southern city. He served 8 years and returned for re-election in 1990.
