    Abraham was inaugurated on November 6 1860. He was known for antislavery. As a result of his being elected as president, the Southern states felt like they didn't have a voice and succeeded from the Union.
  • The First Battle of Bull Run

    The First Battle of Bull Run
    The First Battle of Bull Run was known as the first major battle in the Civil War. The battle was fought in Virginia, with a result of 847 deaths and 2,500 injuries. The Confederacy won the battle. This battle showed that the war was real and that the country's destiny wasn't based on one battle.
  • First Battle of Ironclad Warships

    First Battle of Ironclad Warships
    The First Battle of Ironclad Warships also known as The Battle of Hampton Roads, was the first engagement of ironclad warships during the Civil War and was fought between the USS Monitor and the CSS Virginia. There was no winner but this battle showed the advances in technology and warfare which would be important to the future.

    Battle of Shiloh
    The Battle of Shiloh was a crucial victory for the Union during the Civil War. The Confederacy tried to hold back the Union army to keep them out of Mississippi. The battle took place in Pittsburg Landing Tennessee. The battle was important because this caused the Confederacy to flee.
  • 2nd Battle of Bull Run

    2nd Battle of Bull Run
    The battle took place in Prince William County. The confederate tried to push the Union out of Virginia with contributions such as the Northern Virginia Campaign. General Lee saw an opening to strike against the Union. Lee sent Stonewall to attack in Manassas to draw Pope's attention. Pope attacked Jackson without knowing that Lee was coming to join. This resulted in the Confederacy winning.

    On January 1st 1863 Abraham Lincoln passed the Emancipation Proclamation Act which stated that all slaves not in the Union states shall be free. As a result, the Act increased the Union's available manpower.
  • Chancellorsville

    Chancellorsville was when Robert Lee had a major win for the Confederacy. The Confederate's attack causes confusion within the Union. Stonewall Jackson was shot and died 8 days later which was heavy for the Confederacy. The victory allowed General Lee to move north into Maryland and invade Pennsylvania.

    Battle of Gettysburg
    The battle started by accident but the Union rifle started the fight. Gettysburg was the turning point of the American Civil War. The goal was for the confederate to capture supplies. The Union took back the land and won the battle.
  • Vicksburg

    Vicksburg
    The Vicksburg Battle was an attempt to break the siege between the Confederates and the Union. The confederacy wanted to take over Vicksburg. The Union stopped trade from the Mississippi River. This resulted in the Union victory. The Union victory weakened the Confederacy by splitting it in half and isolating the Southern states.

    The Anit Rights were anti-Black, anti-rich, anti-Republican. Many people were very upset about the unjust rules that were set in place for the draft that were more harsh or easier on certain people/cultures. The rioters also burned buildings. It only ended once Union troops returned from Gettysburg.

    The Gettysburg Address was one of the most famous speeches in History spoken by Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln expressed the nation's grief for the fallen soldiers. He spoke heavily on equality and freedom. He said that we need to follow the Constitution and come together as a nation.

    The burning was initiated by the Union following the Atlanta campaign. Sherman captured the city because the railroads were the center of the Confederacy. Sherman ordered an evacuation in November which he then destroyed the city. Then he started his march.

    Sherman's march was a military campaign during the Civil War. Sherman aimed to hurt the Confederacy's ability to continue the war. The March was 300 miles long and involved 60,000 soldiers. Savannah surrendered on December 21 and presented it as a gift for Christmas for Lincoln. The march brought controversy about how harsh the Union was/
  • Appomattox Courthouse

    Appomattox Courthouse
    This was located in Appomattox County VA where the Union pursued and cut off the confederate’s retreat. Lee launched a final attack to break through Union forces. The Confederacy surrendered. This was the final battle of the Civil War in a Union victory.
  • Lincolns assassination

    Lincolns assassination
    John Wilkes assassinated Abraham Lincoln on April 14th at Ford Theater. Lincoln and his wife went to the theater to watch a play and ended up getting shot in the head where he died the next day. Because of the assassination, it halted the process of total emancipation from slavery. But after 8 months the thirteenth Amendment was ratified.
