this amendment was passed to make slavery illegal. -

this amendment stated if you're born in the U.S you're automatically a citizen. -
15th amendment
this gave everyone the right to vote and says that people cant be told what to do just because they are a different skin color. -
civil rights act of 1875
Thomas Jefferson first used the phrase in declaration of independence. Soon it was there after quoted or incorperated into speaches by a wray of substantial figures in politics. -
plessy v. ferguson
a court case were a black male was arrested for riding in a white only first class train car."Seperate but equal" segregation was legal. -

19th amendment
this amendment gives women the right to vote. -
zoot suit riots
began in L.A was a period of rising tensions between Whit American service men, stationed in southern California and L.A's Mexican American community . Eventhough Mexican Americans were active in the military white service men didn't like the fact that the Mexican Americans wore zoot suits. -
WW2 intergration
Is for blacks to have equal rights in the military and so black people wont be segregated in the military. -
brown v. board of education
A landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students unconstitutional. -
civil rights movement
nonviolent struggle to bring full civil rights and equality under the law to all Americans. The movement has had a lasting impact on United States society, in its tactics, the increased social and legal acceptance of civil rights for blacks in america. -
rosa parks
She had abig part to do in the bus boycott when she refused to give up her seat in the bus to a white person. This act of courage somewhat helped ingnite the civil rights movement. -
Martin Luther King Jr.
MLK was a civil rights movement leader that helped advance the movement using nonviolent civil disobedience. He got a nobel piece prize for combating racism through nonviolence. -
Ku Klux Klan
Racist white supremacsit group that didn't like the boycotts of MLK, so as a result they attempted to kill him. -
Busing
this was a plan to promote school desegregation, by which minority students are transported to largely white schools and white students are transported to largely minority schools. -
Hispanic rights
Won supremecourt saying segregation is illegal and says lations have the same rights that the 14th amendment says it gives. -
24th amendment
this made voting requirements and voting tax illegal. -
Malcolm X
Malcolm X had opposite ideas than MLK and believed that violence would solve their racism problems. In 1964 he joined the civil rights movement and was assasinated on 1965 feburary 21st. -
Civil rights act of 1964
This outlawed major forms of discrimination against racial, ethnic, national religious minorities and women. Also ended unequal application of voter registration requirements and racial segregation in schools, and at the workplace. -
voting rights act of 1965
This outlawed discriminatory voting practices that had been responsible for widespread disenfranchisement of african americans. disenfranchisement is when someone renders a person's vote less effective, or ineffective. -
Cesar Chavez
He was a farm worker, labor leader, and civil rights activist. Co-founded the national farm workers association with Dolores Huerta. -
Native American Rights
Indians were uniformly granted U.S citizenship in 1924. As non-whites and non-citizen indigneous people. then the indian civil rights act was passed in 1968. -
Gay Rights/ Same sex marriage
discrimination is legal but it is still legal for gays to marry in 9 states.
