    White Primary is Abolished in GA
    The white primary stopped blacks from voting in Georgia. The constitution aloud blacks to vote at general elections. But they couldn't vote in the primary election. And at the time, rarely was there a competitor for the democratic party. So while the whites voted for the primary, the blacks couldn't chose because there would be only one person running in the general election.

    Integration of Armed forces
    On July 24, 1948, President Harry Truman signs executive order 9981. This order states,"It is hereby declared to be the policy of the President that there shall be equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to race, color, religion, or national origin."   • Brown V.S. Board of Education

    Brown V.S. Board of Education
    The plantiff, Oliver L. Brown, was suing the Kansas Board of Education on the grounds that it violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. He made this claim stating that seperate facilities was unequal. This case overturned the Plessy V.S.     Rosa Parks and the Bus Boycott
    Rosa Parks was an African American woman riding a bus in the city. A white person got on the bus and demeanded her seat from her. When she refused, she was arrested for not giving the person her seat.     Change to GA's state flag
    GA's state flag was changed to a confederate flag in 1956. It was changed to this because at this time, the federal gov. was attempting to integrate schools and other things as well.   • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    After the decision of National integration,the little rock nine as they were called, was the first group of African Americans to attend Little Rock Central High School. The crisis was that the group was verbally and physically abused. Governer Faubus, to try to fix it, had a bill signed to close schools in that district early, and sell them out to private schools so that whites and blacks would be taught seperatly. The bill passed.

    Hebrew Benevolent Congregation Bombed in ATL
    At 3:45AM that night, a Reform Jewish temple was bombed with what was guessed at 50 sticks on TNT. The night before, a United Press International staff member recieved the threat but did not take it seriously. After the bombing, another call was recieved with part of it saying this.     Sibley Commssion

    Integration of UGA
    In Jan.,1961, Judge W. A. Bootle ordered the Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter to be admitted into UGA. This scared the school, because as they all knew, GA currently shut down funding to integrated schools. These laws were repealed after an angry mob ordered them to.   • Freedom Rides

    Freedom Rides
    Freedom rides were integrated bus rides sponsered by the Congress on Racial Equality (CORE). The riders were blacks and whites opposing segregation. After a tough time getting through GA, Alabama was the last stop for the freedom riders.   • Albany Movement

    Albany Movement
    The Albany movement occured in Albany, GA. It was a group of black workers from the NAACP and the SNCC testing the new bus integration laws. They planned to fill the jails so that people had to be released. But the sheriff had prepared for this, and asked neighboring counties for use of their jails.   • Birmingham Protests

    Birmingham Protests
    The Birmingham campaign was lead by MLK Jr.. The goal of the campaign was to end racism against blacks in Birmingham. The campaign consisted of boybotts, sit ins, and marches. The police sometimes sprayed people with firehoses and let dogs loose. On May 8th, the protest was over.   • The Great March on Washington

    The Great March on Washington
    MLK Jr. was the leader of this protest along with many, many others. They were protesting for general rights of African Americans. This is where MLK Jr. gave his "I Have a Dream" speech.   • 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing

    16th Street Baptist Church Bombing
    The KKK group was the instegator of this attack. They bombed the black church, hoping to harm the people inside. They succeeded in killing 4 children in the act.     John F. Kennedy Assassinated

    Atlanta Race Riot
