Emancipation Proclamation
It helped the freedom of slaves in 10 states. That helped immediately free 50,000 slaves. All of the rest of the slaves, all 3.1 million were also freed. This didn't make any of the freed slaves as citizens though. -

13th Amendment
The 13th Amendment outlaws all slavery and punishments execpt if someone commits a crime. This made slavery illegal in all states because the Emancipation Proclamation didn't include slavery as being illegal but the 13th Amendment makes it illegal. -
14th Amendment
The 14th Amendments says the any peron that was born in the US or was naturally born in the US is a citizen of The United States. The state and local governments are not allowed to deprive the persons life, liberty or proberty with ensuring safeness. -
15th Amendment
This amendment prohibits the United States on denying a citizen the right to vote. Especiall due to your color of skin they are not allowed to deny you the right to vote. -
Plessy vs. Ferguson
This was all about racial segregation saying blacks and whites were separate but equal. Plessy had bought a train ticket but was kicked off because of his race. Yes, the train has the right to kick him off but they should put him on another part of the bus to keep it separate but equal. -
19th Amendment
This was an amendment that said the United States couldn't deny you the right to vote against sex. Women were now allowed to vote. There was women's suffrage but they still allowed women to vote and they could not say no to them or your not allowed. -
Smith v. Allwright
This was in reguard to voting rights of racial segregation. It over-turned the Democratic party iin Texas of it's use of white primares and other states had to adapt to this as well. -
Executive Order 9981
This abolished all segregation in the Armed Forces so African Americans can join the mariens or navy or even army. This established equal treatment and opportunity no matter race, religion or national origin. -
Brown v. Board of Education
This lead to Desegregation in schools that allowed blacks to go to white schools. They still had the separate but equal but they had to be showed with more equality and respect. -
Emmett Till Murder
Emmett Till accidentely whistled while in a conveince store and the female clerk thought he was whistling at her so the women and men go after Emmett Till and the rest of his family and they found him and beat him up so bad they killed him. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
The African American people boycotted the buses and they buses knew they were losing out on money because that who most of there money was from. After this ended they decided segregation on buses was unconstitutional. -
Civil Rights Act 1957
This was primarily a voting bill that lifted segregation off of voting for blacks so they were allowed to vote now. -
Greensboro and Nashville Sit-ins
A few black men waited at a restaurant to be waited on and never were and they were forced out of the restaurant because of there race and they were not allowed to wait on them. -
Freedom Rides
This was interstate buses that blacks were allowed to ride that led into southern united states to test Boynton vs. Virginia case. -
March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom
This was one of the biggest political ralies for civil rights and this is where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I have a dream speech." They walked to stop all of the segregation. 75-80% were black. -
"Sunday School Bombing"
4 girls were ending class in the basement of there school. And when the lesson was over they all decided to go to the bathroom but a bomblblew up and killed all of them. -
24th Amendment
This was an amendment to stop poll taxing. Poll Taxing prevented African Americans from voting. And it was determined that it was unconstitutional for poll taxing to be there considering african americans were now allowed to vote. -
Civil Rights Act 1964
This completely ended the segregation of African americans and women. It had to end voting polls that were segregated, schools, and public facilites that were still segregated. -
Voting Rights Act 1965
It outlawed voting practices against African Americans. This was also just renforcing the 15th amendment to bigger and bettern terms then what they already were. -
Civil Rights Act of 1968
This was a landmark legislation that created equal housing race, creed, or national origin. This is also known as the fair housing act. This Act is a revised verision of the same one in 1966 but with revisions. These revisions include discriminating sale, rental, and financial based on your race, religion or national origin. This act protects families with children and people with disabilities.
