    This was the 150th anniversary of the First Fleet landing at Sydney Cove. Although many white people celerated on this day, Aboriginals reffered to it as a Day of Mourning as it marked 150 years of Indigenous Australians being mistreated and discriminated against.
  • Brown Versus the Board of Education

    This event took place after an African American girl, Linda Brown wanted to go to a white only school but was refused her position.
  • Murder of Emmett Till

    A 14 year old African American boy moved from Chicago to Missisipi where he was brutally murdered.
  • Little Rock 9

    Nine African American student enrolled in Little Rock Central Highschool and were attacked on several occasions.
  • Greensboro Sit-Ins

    Four African Americans sat in a white only lunch counter in a Woolworths in North Carolina.
  • "I have a dream" Speech

    Martin Luther King Jr. made a speech in Washington to end racism in America.
  • Freedom Rides - Australia

    A group of students from the University of Sydney began travelling around New South Wales raising awareness for Aboriginal rights.
  • Referendum

    A referendum adding Aboriginals to the Australian population was approved with a 90.8%-9.2% result.
  • Mabo Decision

    The Mabo Decision was made by the High Court of Australia, giving Native Title rights to the Meriam people.
  • Sorry Speech

    The Prime Minister of Australia gave a speech, apologising to the Indigenous population and those who suffered from the Stolen Generation in Parliament.
