    Dred Scott v. Sandford

    This case is significant because it stated that African Americans were not allowed to be seen as Citizens of the United States. That being said it was also significant because it meant that congress lacked power to stop slavery from happening. This all added up to African Americans ( free or Slaved ) could not sue in court. it was decided in 1857.
  • 13th Amendment

    13th Amendment

    This amendment stated that slavery was abolished. It stated that the only way that unpaid serviced was to be allowed was if it was a punishment by the court. This amendment fully abolished slavery without payment. President Abraham Lincoln was the one to Abolish it ( with the help of the House of Reps. )
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment

    This amendment states that anyone who is born into the United States is seen as a citizen of the United States. This means that even if your parents are not seen as Citizens and they have a child born into the United states they will be seen as a Citizen of the United States. ( The Child )
  • 15th amendment

    15th amendment

    This amendment stated that no one shall be denied the right to vote in the United States. This amendment even stated that you could still vote if you were seen as a slave previously. It also stated that you could not be denied the right to vote due to you race or color. However, this never stated that women had the right to vote.

    This case was of huge importance because it played a huge part in racial segregation. This case was due to an incident where a man named Homer Plessy didn't want to sit in a car of black people. The decision ultimately phrased the term " separate but equal "
  • 19th amendment

    19th amendment

    This amendment granted women the right to vote. Although, this was a long fought battle with several fights for their right to vote and many marches for the right the amendment was ratified August 8th of 1920. This amendment was significant because although the 15h amendment stated that all United states Citizens shall be granted the right to vote it never stated that Women were allowed the right to vote.

    This case led to racial segregation in schools and other educational programs to be seen as unconstitutional. This meant that schools could no longer be black or white only. This is a huge case and had important outcome because it meant that even if the schools were " equal " despite segregation they would still be deemed unconstitutional.

    Civil Rights act of 1964

    This act made it impossible for a place that needed labor to discriminate against race, color, religion, sex, national origin. This act later made it so that places couldn't discriminate against sexual orientation and gender identity. This was huge because it meant that places that wanted to hire people could no longer deny you due to appearance, etc. Anyone could now get a job no matter what.
  • Voting Rights act of 1965

    Voting Rights act of 1965

    This Act made it illegal to have any discriminatory practices with voting. Things such as tests for literacy were now illegal. These discriminatory practices were first seen in the south after the civil war. This Act was important because after the south lost the civil war which ultimately ended slavery. ( this is what brought up the literacy test )

    Reed v. Reed

    This case stated that leaders of estates cant be named in any way that discriminates against sexes. This case was significant because it made it known that discrimination against sexes was not to be tolerated. The outcome of this case as stated before made it unconstitutional to discriminate against sex.

    This title is a Federal Civil Rights law in the united states that was part of the education Amendments of 1972. This title outlaws sex based discrimination in schools and any other educational program. Educational programs count as anything that has federal funding.
  • Regents of the university of california v. blake

    Regents of the university of california v. blake

    This case stated that any racial discrimination in an educational program or school was unconstitutional. It also meant that schools accepting minority applicants was seen as constitutional depending on the reasoning. This case ultimately stated that " Racial Quotas " were unconstitutional.
  • Americans with Disibilities Act

    Americans with Disibilities Act

    This act states that it is illegal to discriminate based off of disabilities. This means that even if someone has a mental or physical disability. This act was enacted by the 101st congress of the United states.
  • Obergefell v. hodges

    Obergefell v. hodges

    This case made it known that same sex marriage was allowed and not seen as unconstitutional. This was stated because the right for same sex marriage was protected under the fourth amendment. In the 14th amendment there is a " Due Process Clause " aswell as a " Equal Protection Clause " that both protect the right to same sex marriage.
