    Shang dynasty

    The Shang made advances including China’s first writing system. It used more than 2000 symbols. Emperors ruled. Ruled from 1500-1100.

    Zhou Dynasty

    They believed in Mandate heaven which means that the ruler of China was chosen by the heavens. They made a new political system where the emperor was at the top. Ruled from 1100s-771 BC

    Qin Dynasty

    As emperor, the king took a new name. He called himself Shi Huangdi which is a name that means first emperor. He created a system of laws that would make equally to people in all parts of China. He also built the Great Wall of China. He changed the Chinese politics. Unlike the Zhou rulers he refused to share his power.Ruled in 221 BC

    Han dynasty began in 205 BC

    In 140 BC Emperor Wudi took the throne. He created a stronger government. Art thrived, and inventors developed many useful devices. The Han created a sundial, and a seismograph. They also created a new, stronger government.

    Began the Grand Canal, which is a canal linking northern and southern China. They also restored order in China

    Conquered many lands, had some of China’s finest poets, reformed a military, and created laws. They reformed a military, and created laws.

    Ruled for 300 years, until 1279. Reunited China after all the disorder.
