    At this time an infant begins to respond to the voices of others
  • 8 months of age

    At 8 months of age children begin to make meaningful gestures.
  • 12 months of age

    At this time a child is able to say it's first words.
  • 16 months

    At about 16 months of age children begin to understand simple sentences.
  • 2 years old

    At two years of age a child should be developing word combinations as well as adding to their vocabulary upto 300 words.
  • 3yrs old to 4yrs old

    Between the ages of three and four children begin to use syntax and sentence formation, in addtion their vocabulary triples.
  • 5 years old

    Between the ages of four and five children can start to understand and talk about feelings.
  • 6 years old

    At about six years of age children start to connect language into written form.
  • 6 years to 8 years

    At this time children begin to tell the difference between a verbal mistake and an intentional lie.
  • 11 years and above

    Children 11 years and above are able to conduct narratives, understand pretty much anything that is said and can even understand figurative language.
