The Chesapeake colony began to send shipments of tobacco to Great Britian. Taxes were removed from the imported tobacco and was sold for 5-10 times the price it took to produce in the Chesapeake region. The profits increased the value of indentured servants, increasing the flow of emmigrants to Virginia. -
One in nine immigrants died during their first year compared to one in four in previous generations. Health also improved due to more plantations moving upstream to water filled with less bacteria. Immunity also improved as more people survived local diseases. -
The act of Religious Toleration was the first law passed in the colonies allowing the freedom of worship after much urging from Baltimore. -
The assembily decided to lower taxes to a quarter of what taxes were in 1670 in order to accommodate for the poor planters in the Chesapeake colonies. -
The Headright System gave each freedman in the colony 50 acres of free land.
