    Woodrow Wilson became president
    On March 4, 1914 Woodrow Wilson became the 28th president of the United States. The Great War was the main priority in his term in office. He also wrote the 14 Points later on.
  • The assassination of Francis Ferdinand

    The assassination of Francis Ferdinand
    On June 28, 1914 the Archduke of Austria was assassinated by the Serbians. This was the beginning of the Great War. The society that committed to this action was the Black Hand.
  • Great Britain declares war on Germany

    Great Britain declares war on Germany
    On August 4, 1914 Great Britain declared war on Germany because German tanks forced their way across the Belgium borders to attack France. If Britain would have ignored this action they would have been attacked after France.
  • Christmas on the Western Front

    Christmas on the Western Front
    On December 25, 1914 German and British troops gave each other a Merry Christmas. Both sides put their guard down and mingled in No Man's Land. Some exchanged gifts and songs while others played a game of football.
  • Sinking of the Lusitania

    Sinking of the Lusitania
    On May 1, 1915 the luxurious Lusitania left New York to reach Europe. Inside the ship were thousands of people and goods. While it was ferrying these people across the ocean the Lusitania was attacked by German U-boats. Within minutes the ship sunk leaving us bodies in the ocean.
  • The Zimmerman Note

    The Zimmerman note was a telegram translation that was sent from Germany to Mexico. In this note it asked the Mexico to join the German alliance. The Germans wanted the Mexicans to distract the Americans by going to war with them. The Germans promised that they would receive the land they lost in return.
  • U.S. declares war on Germany

    On April 6, 1917 the United States declares war on Germany. The majority of the votes in congress said yes. Since the Germans killed about thousands of Americans it gives them a purpose to enter the war.
  • U.S. Draft

    On April 6, 1917 the call for consumption of war came, and although Wilson disliked the prospect of a draft bill, he eventually accepted it and the draft act began, requiring all men ages from 18 to 45 to enlist into the military. Around 337,000 dodged the draft.
  • U.S. troops arrive in France

    U.S. troops arrive in France
    On June 26, 1917 14,000 Americans troops secretly landed on France. The Americans wanted to keep a low profile because they didn’t want to get attacked by German submarines. The American troops arrived unprepared so U.S. General John J Pershing set up training camps to train these men.

    On January 18, 1918 Woodrow Wilson’s delivered his 14 points speech to congress. Wilson wanted to reduce the power of majority groups in countries. Some of his points wanted countries to evacuate places in which they don’t belong. Wilson’s wanted to end the war and make a few changes so that the world would be a better place.
  • Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

    On March 3, 1918 the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was signed. This was the reason why Russia had to leave to war. After that the Russians were known to be a disloyal ally to have in a war.
  • The Great War Ends

    On November 11, 1918, the Great War ended. This day was known as Armistice Day. The Central Powers lost against the Allied Powers.
  • The Eighteenth Amendment

    The Eighteenth Amendment
    On January 16, 1919 the eighteenth amendment was ratified. This amendment ended prohibition. This increased crime rates since people would secretly sell liquor. All lot of gangs made a lot of money because of this. Later on the eighteenth amendment was repealed by the twenty-first amendment.
  • Treaty of Versailles was signed

    Treaty of Versailles was signed
    On June 28, 1919 the Treaty of Versailles was signed. It stated that Germany had to repair damages that were made in the war. It limited the German army to 100,000 soldiers giving them a disadvantage as well as decreasing the production of war vehicles and artillery. Also ban was put on the union of Germany and Austria.
  • The Nineteenth Amendment

    The Nineteenth Amendment
    On August 18, 1920 the 19th amendment was ratified. This gave women the right to vote. Women all over America was relieved since it took a long time for this to happen. Their role in the industry during the war helped them achieve this.
