As Isabel learns the ropes, Madam decides to make Ruth a personal maid. Isabel overhears important information, so she starts to consider helping Curzon and the rebel cause for America.

On the way to the pump, Curzon treats Isabel to a bread roll and asks her to spy for the rebels because Master Lockton is an involved Loyalist.

After Isabel finishs hauling the water to the house, she is greeted by Becky, a servant. Becky shows her and Ruth the ropes.
She gets to work and does chores for her first day on the job. -
Today they dock at New York. After a short complication, Isabel is running to get water from the Tea Water Pump with Curzon to show her the way.

Isabel meets Lady Seymour and gets a new name. Her new name if Sal Lockton. She is sent to serve the men in the library. She listens in on the conversation. She decides to try and help the rebel cause.

In the middle of the night, Isabel runs to Curzon's shed. She wakes him up and tells him everything she heard in the library. She helps the rebel cause because the Patriots might be able to sen her and her sister home.

Mr. Bellingham, Curzons master, walks into the Lockton estate with soldiers and starts taking out the windows. He said that everyone was making sacrifices. They were taking the lead from the drapery hangers too. The even melted the church bells.

Becky overhears the Govener of New York talk about bribing patriot soldiers to come over to the British side and also hears about a plan to kill George Washington.

Isabel stole a list titles "Commitee to Preserve the Kings Peace" and ran with it to the rebel camp. She showed Colonel Regan the list and told him about the bribes and how a traitor was going to kill General Washington.

Today, some Patriots drug down the statue of the King and broke it into many piece. Isabel kept a piece of the king.

Today, Isabel and Ruth are seperated. Madam sells Ruth back to other land they own in Charleston, and Isabel gets very mad. This is a horrible part of Chains.

After her sister is sold, Isabel tries to escape. She is caught and is put in jail for a short time.

Madam decides that the correct punishment for trying to escape is being branded. She has Isabel branded with an I, for Insolence.

As Isabel is getting water for Madam's tea, she over hears two other slaves talking about the British. The British were willing to give total freedom to slaves that ran away from their Patriot masters. Isabel starts considering running away to the British Army.

Isabel trys to run to the British Army when they invade New York.

Isabel gets loaned to Aunt Seymour because she is housing a dozen Hessians.

When Sal awoke, all New York seemed in a blaze. She woke up coughing horribly and helped Aunt Seymour out of the house, carrying prized possesions of Aunt's.

Isabel starts taking table scraps to the prisoners that were captured in the Battle of Fort Washington.

Captain Morse, a Patriot, tells Sa to pass a note to the prisoners that is baked inside a bread roll. It contains the news about General Washington's victory at the battle of Trenton.

Madam finds out about Isabel passing notes and feeding the prisoners and beats her with a riding crops.

Isabel forges a pass and steals a map, smuggles Curzon out of prison, steals a rowboat, and rows away from New York.
