    Sugar Act
    The British needed money for their military, so the Parliment passed a tax on the colonies. The British taxed the English colonies on Sugar and Molasses. Sugar the colony used as sweetner and Molasses can be used t make medicine and other raw materials.They passed the act on April 5, 1764.

  • Sons Of Liberty

    Sons Of Liberty
    A group of men who protested against British laws and acts. The leader was Samuel Adams. This committee would destroy houses and feather custom officials.They also wrote in the newspaper to spread the news and often made the British look bad so more colonists would join them. They helped move the colonist to rebel for their rights.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The British Parliment taxed the colonist yet again in 1765. This Act impelled colonists to pay for an officail stamp on printed or paper items. The tax on the stamp was actually very small, but the colonists wanted to the British to consult with them before they taxed them. This act sparked riots in the English colonies.
  • Committes Of Correspondence

    Committes Of Correspondence
    The Committees of Correspondence was a meeting between representatives from the English colonies. The meetings would include sharing information or ideas. Theses meetigs were held in Boston. The representatives would think of ways to challenge the British laws. They would often display their protests in boycotts or refusing to buy English materials.

    Townshend act
    Yet another act was passed by the British Parliment. It was an act that taxed glass, paints, led, paper and tea. The King allowed British officials into the colonies to search houses for smuggled goods. Obviously the colonist didn't like this act very much because they had to let the British search their property. This took a lot power away from the colonial goverment also.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Many Red Coats from the British military came into the colonies and this increased the tension amoung them. One day the colonists were harrassing this one official and making fun of him. After the towns people started insulting the officers general; the officer hit the man in the head with the back of his gun making him black out. A crowd soon gathered arounf the red coats and a riot began. Five colonists were killed and six were injured in this uprising.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The tea Act was also passed by the British Parliment. It was supposed to help the East India Company raise profit. It actually lowered taxes on tea and Britian would sell it to the colonists buyers directly. This angered the shopkeepers because they diddn't get any profit from selling the tea anymore. The Sons Of Liberty accused the British of purposely cutting out the shopkeepers income. Colonists were outraged and this surprised the British because they thought decreasing taxes would help.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Outraged by the Tea Act, a group of colonist dumped the imported tea into the Boston Harbour. They dressed up as indians to diguise themselves. This event was lead by the Sons of Liberty. The group consisted of about sixty people. The colonist dumped about 700,000 dollars worth of tea in todays currency!
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Laws enforced by the British Parliments after the Boston Tea Party. These laws were to punish the colonist for their rebellion against them. They closed the Boston which rapidly decreased the colonists income because their port brought much of their money. British officials who wre charged of major crimes would be sent to Britian in trials instead of being tried in the colonies. They passed the Quarter acts which forced colonist to pay for food, shelter and other necessities of British soldi

    1st Continental Congress
    The closing of the Boston Harbor sent colonist over the edge they were ready to take a stand. All representatives, except for Georgie, gathere for the 1st Continental Congress. The representatives were stuck in debates over the situation the colonist were now in with Britian.
