    Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    Franz Ferdinand visited Saravejo, the capital of Bosnia to inspect the Austria-Hungarian troops. The heir of the Austria-Hungarian throne and his wife Sophie were both shot dead. The death of these two would break southern Slav provinces. Gavrilo Princip was arrested and sentenced for 20 years for killing both of them because he was underage.

America's economy grew because of trade.The United States refused to take sides in the war
  • Sinking of the Lusitania

    Sinking of the Lusitania
    German attacks of ships alarmed British captain of the Lusitania to avoid the south coast of Ireland. The captain foolishly ignored those commands and soon a torpedo exploded close to the ships boilers and the Lusitania sank in less about 20 minutes. Wilson wrote to the German government that the use of submarine warfare should be limited. The Lusitania, was hit by a torpedo by a German boat. Over 1,000 people died, including 128 Americans. This caused outrage for Americans.

    This was a promise similar to the Sussex pledge made by the Germany to limit unrestricted submarine warfare. The British passenger ,Arabic, was torpedoed killing innocent people and Wilson was outraged and threaten to join the war. Germany would warn non-military ships 30 minutes before they sank them to make sure the passengers and crew got out safely.

    German government signed this pledge promising to stop the attacks on non military ships. Merchant ships would be inspected and sunk if they carried weapons without warning. The Sussex was severely damaged and president Wilson warned Germany that if no action was taken then the United States would break diplomatic relations. Passenger ships would not be targeted.

    In the election of 1916, the main focus was if the United States would become involved in World War I. Supreme Court Justice Charles E. Hughes and President Woodrow Wilson ran against each other. Wilson! "He Kept Us Out Of War", was his campaign slogan. Two weeks after taking office, this idea was challenged.

    Te use of unrestricted submarine warfare was used by Germany on January 9th, 1917. The war was not going well for Germany on the Western Front. Unrestricted submarine warfare because maybe the brutal tactic might keep America out of the war.Germany's tactic of using unrestricted submarine warfare was a major reason for why America joined the war.

    British cryptographers revealed a telegraph from German foreign secretary, Arthur Zimmermann to a German ambassador in mexico.The note suggested a deal of offering United States territory to Mexico in return for alliance. It also instructed the ambassador to offer financial aid to Mexico and the Germans promised to restore Mexican lost territories including, Texas, New Mexico & Arizona. If the deal was set, then a Mexican-German alliance would form. This alarmed the US into entering World War 1

As a result, there was the fall of autocracy in Russia and the creation of the Russian SFSR. There were 2 revolutions. The March rev overthrew the imperial government and the November Rev put the Bolsheviks power.

    Hundreds of Mexican guerrillas under the command of Francisco Pancho Villa crossed the US-Mexican border and attacked Columbus, New Mexico.Seventeen American were killed and President Woodrow Wilson ordered US Army troops into Mexico to capture Pancho Villa
