  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    In the Missouri Compromise The two states are Missouri and Maine.
    Congress granted statehood as a slave state under the condition that slavery would be prohibited in the rest of the Lousiana Purchase.

    It started in Missouri.
    It was passed to abolish slavery.
    The Missouri compromise was meant to create a balance between slave and non- slave states.

    Missouri entered the state as a slave state and people wanted to abolish it so they passed the slave act.
  • Wilmont Proviso

    Wilmont Proviso
    The Wilmont Proviso involved the house of representatives David Wilmont introduced the Proviso. Congress passed a bill granting Missouri statehood as a slave state.
    The compromise was an effort by Congress to defuse the sectional and political rivalries.
    This was signed to eliminate slavery within the land acquired as a result of the Mexican war.
    The cause was they wanted to abolish slavery from any territory. The effect was it led to greater sectionalism in the U.S
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    This event involved Washington D.C the slave trade soon got abolished.
    Henry Clay introduced a series of resolutions. The five bills that were passed were a stricter slave law, California entering as a free state, a boundary drawn between Mexico and Texas, stopping slavery in tracks, No slave trade in D.C, and allowance of popular sovereignty.
    War was resolved through this compromise and the legislature passed the slave act but was never solved. This overturned the Missouri Compromise.

    The Fugitive Slave Act
    The Fugitive Slave Act involves slaves. Slaves were escaping and Congress said if anyone caught them they had to be returned back. No slave was safe.

    They were trying to keep slaves from running away.

    This act was the most controversial in 1850.
    The cause was slaves were escaping to free northern states. The effect was even if they did escape and they were no longer in a slave state if people found out by law they would have to return the slaves back to their masters.
  • Uncle Toms Cabin

    Uncle Toms Cabin
    Uncle Toms Cabin involves an abolitionist named Harriet Beacher Stowe.

    The anti-slavery novel was titled Uncle Toms Cabin. 300,000 copies were sold
    Stowe lived in Cincinnati.
    The fugitive slave law inspired Harriet because she felt slaves were not being treated right.

    People say this novel has changed history because it was one cause of the civil war.

    The cause was an abolitionist wanted to express her feelings and the effect was it was a leading cause to the civil war.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    Kansas Nebraska Act
    The Kansas Nebraska act involves the legislature and Franklin Pierce he signed it into law. The Kansas Nebraska Bill undid previous legislation that limited the expansion of slavery.

    The war took place in Kansas and Missouri.
    It was a fight about slavery in the north and the South
    A mini-war broke out called bleeding Kansas.
    The cause was many northerners intended to prevent slavery at all costs and the effect was the bleeding Kansas war broke out it lasted from 1856 to 1865.

    John Browns Raid
    The John Brown Raid involves a group of slaves running for freedom. John Brown was an abolitionist and tried to rescue slaves but ended up killing many people and got sentenced for it. The event took place at Harpers Ferry. John brown got a death sentence and everyone remembered him for it. He wanted to do something about slavery and he tried putting a stop to it and ended up killing many people and got a death sentence. Images

    Dred Scott Case
    The Dred Scott Case involves Scott and a man named Stanford.
    In 1857 a former slave Dred Scott sued for his slavery freedom.

    The event took place In Missouri.

    Scott thought he needed his freedom and believed he needed to do something about it.

    It voided the Missouri compromise and allowed slavery everywhere and Scott never got his freedom.

    Dred Scott wanted to be a free man in a free state and he never got a chance to stand up fir himself and he was never free.
  • Lincoln Douglas Debate

    Lincoln Douglas Debate
    The Lincoln Douglas debate involves Lincoln and Stephen Douglas. President Lincoln wanted to ban slavery and Douglas thought the states should be able to decide whether they want to keep slavery.

    The event took place in Illinois

    Two different people had two different views on something and an election needed to be held. Douglas won the election. A dispute needed to be settled and the effect as Lincoln was known as a political figure throughout the U.S
  • Lincolns Election of 1860

    Lincolns Election of 1860
    The election involves President Lincoln and three other electors. Douglas who favored individual decisions, John Bell who promised to protect slavery and keep the nation together, and John Breckinridge who supported slavery. The states that voted for Lincoln were most of the northern states which were California, Michigan, Oregon, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois and many others
    Lincoln got most of his votes from Virginia.
    Everyone got a portion of territory.
  • Southern Secession

    The Southern Secession was a collection of 11 South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia,Louisiana, adding Texas in (with Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina),
    The states seceded from the U.S when Lincoln was elected. The states wanted to form there own governments. Fort Sumter was attacked by South Carolina confederate forces. South Carolina wanted to form a confederate union. The cause is states wanted to be confedorists and states left the U.S.
