Missouri Compromise

In the Missouri Compromise the North got Maine as a free state and they got anything above the 36", 30". The South got Missouri and anything below the 36", 30".

Nat Turner's Rebellion

Aug 21, 1831

Slaves started to kill slave families it is estimated that during the rebellion they killed 55 people. The result was that there was more restrictions.

Compromise of 1850

Sep 9, 1850

The North got California and slave trade was banned. The South got the rest of the Mexican Cession and they had stronger Slave laws. Texas gave up claims to present day New Mexico.

Uncle Tom's Cabin

Mar 20, 1852

This was a book made by Harriet Beecher Stowe. The book was about the horrors of slavery. The impact that was more people became abolitionists.

Kansas Nebraska Act

May 30, 1854

The act said that Kansas would be split up and then vote on slavery and the rest of the Louisiana purchase would decide if they want slavery

Dred Scott Ruling

Mar 6, 1857

The ruling was 1. Africans are not citizens 2. Slaves were property 3. The once free always free doesn't have to be followed by states.

John Brown's Raid

Oct 18, 1859

The raid was at the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. The purpose was to arm slaves to start a rebellion. John Brown was killed by a hanging for treason.

1860 Election

Nov 6, 1859

Abraham Lincoln was elected. States started to secede. His first act as president was to ban seceding. Then he tried to protect slaves.
