  • Missouri Compromise of 1820

    Missouri Compromise of 1820
    This compromise stated that Missouri was approved as slave state and Maine can be separated from Massachusetts as a free state. All the states at north of the 36°30′ latitude line forbad slavery except Missouri. It makes the number of the slave states and the number of free states equal so that the balance between the South and the North won't break.
    The Missouri Compromise of 1820 decrease the tensions between the North and the South.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    In this compromise, California entered Union as a free state; Slave trade was forbidden in Washington D.C; created a new boundary between Texas and New Mexico; Utah and New Mexico did not have slavery restriction; Fugitive Slavery Act was passed. This compromise let the South stay in federal but the anti-slavery movements in the North became more drastic.
    The Compromise of 1850 increased the tension between the North and the South.
  • Fugitive Slave Act of 1850

    Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
    Because many slaves in South escaped to Northern area, the South states created a law to allow slave owners and government officers to capture the escaping slaves with a claim of ownership. This Act showed the highly admission of human slavery in South and make anti-slavery movements in the North more intense.
    Fugitive Slave Act increased the tensions between the South and the North.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas
    This War was highly influenced by the Kansas-Nebraska Act. It stated from 1854 to 1859. Because Kansas and Nebraska were not slave states, so many people in Missouri moved to there. People remained in Missouri and other South states began guerrilla warfares with people in Kansas. The problem was finally solved when Kansas became a free state. The relationship between Slavery and Capitalism became worse.
    Bleeding Kansas increased the tensions between the North and the South.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    This act separated Nebraska into two states -- Kansas and Nebraska without determining they are free states or slave states. The original aim is developing the western part of America. This act let residents choose what they want to be and it against the Missouri Compromise of 1820. After this Act passed, the Missouri expanded the slavery business to the west so that many North people strongly object to this act.
    Kansas- Nebraska Act increased the tensions between the North and the South.

    Abraham Lincoln Elected President
    Abraham Lincoln was the first republican president in history. He protested slavery and separation of the U.S.The main idea of the country will be confirm and the slavery would not be a right thoughts in the nation any more. This event showed that the power of the South was decreasing and it also became one of the direct causes of Civil War. The South's interests were also failing by the results of the election.
    This event increasing the tensions between the North and the South.
