President Lincoln was elected into office and this was the largest turning point for the southern states because they felt like they were loosing their fight against the north -

Many of the southern states seded from the union after the election of Lincoln because it made them feel like they were loosing their battle against the north for slavery -

Confederate cannons shoot at fort sumter and these were the first shots fired and the beginning of the civil war between the North and the South and it was all over the slaves.
