Causes of the Civil War

  • Missouri Compromise 1820

    The Missouri Compromise led Missouri as a slave state and led Maine as a free state.At the time the United States only had 22 states so congress figured out a way to divided the states evenly between free states and slave states.Anything behind the 36 30 line will not be a slave state and anything in front of it will not be a free state.Congress thought about this idea because people from the south and people from the north are kept on fight and argueing about slavery or non slavery.
  • Nat turners rebellion

    Nat turner wanted to go on a rebellion he took many slaves with him and killed many white women,men,and children.Then he was wanted and he was trying to hide and his rebellion didn't really do much but led to the civil war.He was captured and put to death.This took place in Sothhampton County,Virginia.This was about Nat Turners Rebellion.
  • Missouri Compromise of 1850

    The Missouri Compromise of 1850 was made because back in 1820 there was the Compromise of 1820 and it didn't work out very well as congress thought it will.So when America won the Mexican war they gained a lot of land.They gained Texas,California,New Mexico,Nevada,and Utah.California became a free state and the south was mad so congress wanted to make it fair so congress passed a law called the fugitive slave act.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    The Fugitive Slave Act was after the Missouri Compromise of 1850.Congress passed this act because California became a free state and the south was mad and they kept fighting.The Fugitive Slave Act was when slaves ran away to the north and Northeners had to return the slaves back to the owner or else if they don't and try to free them they will go to prison.This was The Fugitive Slave Act.
  • Uncle Toms Cabin

    Uncle Toms Cabin was a book made bye Harriet Beecher Stowe. Harriet Beecher Stowe was an Abolitionist that was strongly against slavery.Uncle Toms Cabin was about the real evils of slavery.This book was the best selling book at the time.Abraham Lincoln even knew this also led to the civil war.Many Northeners read this book.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    The Kansas-Nebraska act was allowing those territories to make their own decisions using popular sovereignty.This act repealed the Missouri Compromise of 1820.This prohibited slavery north of 36 30.This also allowed all territories to decide for themselves.This was the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
  • John Browns Raid

    John Brown was an abolitionist who really wanted slavery to end.He wasn't like that rich of a person so he asked rich abolitionist for the supplies of his raid.He took many slaves with him and try to kill many masters and mistress this was kinda like Nat Turners rebellion but this time John Brown was an abolitionist.So he did his raid and he was hiding when finally he got captured and he got put to death for Treason.He was Charged for Treason.This was John Browns raid.This was at Harper's Ferry.
  • Secession

    When Abraham Lincoln had been elected as president the south wanted to have their own country because they knew that they might have to giveaway their slaves and because Abraham Lincoln was an anti-slavery person.He was part of the Union.The south Didn't really have the right to form their own country so Abraham Lincoln send troops to go stop the south from forming their own country that's when the civil war now started.This was March 1861.
