    Proclamation of 1763

    King George III made the Proclamation of 1763 because he did not want to pay due to conflict with the natives. The Proclamation of 1763 was a boundary law stating that no colonists could settle west of the Appalachian mountains. The colonists did not like this because they had just fought over the land.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was passed by Parliament to pay for the war. This Act increased the duties on imported sugar. It also increased duties on items like coffee, indigo, textiles, and wine.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was passed by Parliament imposing the first direct tax on the American colonies. They did this to offset high costs of the British military. They taxed all printed materials including newspapers, pamphlets, bills, legal documents, licenses, almanacs, and dice and playing cards.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act

    This Act allowed troops to stay in other peoples homes if barracks were not available. If you had one bed in your house that bed would go to the soldier and the home owner would sleep on the floor. Many people did not like having a British soldier in their home un-invited.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre occurred when a mob of colonists harassed British soldiers. The soldiers responded by firing their muskets into a crowd. During this altercation three people were killed, two were mortally wounded, and six were injured. The colonists were angry about what transpired.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party

    In 1773 a group of men called “Sons of Liberty” went to Boston Harbor. They dressed like Indians and dumped 45 tons of tea into the harbor. The group of men did this in response to the tea getting taxed.

    The Boston Port Act

    Parliament closed the port of Boston until the price of dumped tea was recovered. The Capital of Massachusetts was moved to Salem. Closing the port really affected the colonists and their ability to trade as they could not send anything out or bring anything in.
  • Impartial Administration of Justice Act

    Impartial Administration of Justice Act

    The Administration of Injustice Act was know as one of the Intolerable Acts. Colonists believed the act that was dismissive of their legal rights. The act allowed the governor to relocate trials which may result in a better outcome for the British soldiers.
  • Massachusetts Bay Regulating Act

    Massachusetts Bay Regulating Act

    Through this Act, British Parliament banned all town meetings that didn’t have approval by the royal governor. They also made all law officers subject to appointment by the royal governor. The "Sons of liberty" did not like this because they could no longer have meetings.
  • Qubec Act

    Qubec Act

    The Quebec Act was passed in 1774. It granted religious freedom to Catholics living in Quebec. It also granted civil government to them as well.
