Causes of The American Revolution

  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    When Britain won the war they were told not to cross the Treaty of Paris line. Britins government could not afford to continue to fund wars because they were in great debt following the French and Indian war. The colonists were not happy that they could not inhabit the land they just won. They did not think that, that was fair that the government could take there land away. This started the rebellion aginsed the British government.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The British government taxed the colonist's on all the sugar because of the war debt. This discuriged murchants because they had to fil out long and confusing paper work to legalze all there merchandice. This made the shiping process longer and they shiped less. Because of this it causes the merchants to raise there prices.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The stamp act made colonist's pay taxes on every printed peice of paper that they used. The colonists did not like this act because they saw it as a way for the government to make money. The colonists did not think that it was fair that they did that because the colonists did not belive taxing them was a way for Britain to make up its debt.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    Parlament said that they would take back the stamp act as long as the colonists would ablie to anything that parlament wanted to pass. The colonists did not like this because they had no represintation in parlament. They had no say about the laws that were passed in there colonies.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The colonists were taxed on all imported good by Britain so they could fund the army. This did not go over well with the colonists.This started a boycott againsed all English items. The colonists did this so they would stop taxing them on everything. By boycotting all the products Britain was making no money.
  • Boston Massacre

    A group of Colonists were making remarks to the small group of British soldiers. One of the colonists threw a snowball at the group of soldiers got ma and started to fire in the crowd. 5 colonists were killed and the soldiers were tried for murder and found not guilty. Many colonists believe that the British will kill to enforce unfair tax laws.

    Parliment gave money to the British East India Company Tea because the company was in debt. British wanted to give them a better opportunity to get more business. The Colonists didn't like it because they didn't give the British consent to tax them. The Colonist's thought that British would start to tax everything

    In the state of Massachusetts, members of an anti-tax group called the "Son of Liberty’’ formed by John Hancock and Samuel Adams. The group dumps a large shipment of British tea into Boston Harbor to protest the tea act. King George III declares that “the colonies are in a state of rebellion’’ and he sends more British soldiers to the colonies to enforce the law.

    Intolerable Act
    People had mixed results about the Tea Party. Parliament passed the Coercive Acts in 1774 in a pursuit to restore order. The colonist renamed those acts the Intolerable Acts. Boston Port Bill is in the Intolerable Acts the purpose of this bill was to close Boston Harbor to all ships until Bostonians had repaid the British East India Company for damage.   • Battle of Lexongton and Concord

    Battle of Lexongton and Concord
    April 19, 1775 a British commander dispatched troops to seize an arsenal of colonial militia weapons in Concord, Massachusetts. Minutemen from Lexington intercepted them and fired their weapons at them. Eight Americans died due to the British sliced through them and moved on to Concord. When the British got to Concord they were ambushed by the Concord militia. The British retreated to Boston after more than 270 in their unit were killed, compared to fewer than 100 Americans.
