Texas was paid $10 million to tale back so much land. Washington D.C. had to quit slavery in the city, but it was still legal. California was admitted a free state. -
Fugitive Slave Act
All slaves had to return to their masters. Anyone helping a slave is free would be sent to prison for six months. Congress made it illegal to assist a Fugitive slave. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
The book sold a lot of copies. Many people joined the abolitionists cause they figured out how hard it was being a slave. -
Kansas Nebraska Act
It lets the states choose if they wanted to be free or slavery, and then it ended up in violence. -
Dred Scott Decision
The Supreme court ruled that he was property and couldn't sue. they ruled that it was unconstitutional. -
Harper's Ferry
The goal is to gain control of weapons and lead a slave revolt. Raid fails and Brown is captured and hanged for treason. -
Lincoln's Election
He was the only candidate against slavery. He won without a single vote from the south which pushed them south to succeed. Lincoln’s election pushed the nation to the brink of war. -
Attack on Ft. Sumpter
The Fort was attacked by the south they almost ran out but then the north supplied and lincoln demanded and added troops which started the war.
