Missouri Compromise of 1820
Who: James Tallmadge and Henry Clay
Where: Eastern United Staes
What: Missouri was in prepararion for statehood and wanted to be a slave state but they couldn't because it would get a unbalanced force between the US. So in 1820 Henry Clay put a line in the 36* 30* North Latitude that seperated North so they can be free states and South became Slaves States.
Why: So it wouldn't upset the balance and cause a Civil War -

Wilmot Proviso
Where: Southwest United States
Who: David Wimot
What: The Wimot Proviso was a lesgislation proposed by David Wilmot were it would outlaw slavery in the newly aquired land from the Mexican- American War but after multiple attempts it wasn;t approved.
Why: Because it would ban Slavery and free the slaves -
Compimise of 1850
Who: Henry Clay and Millard Fillmore
Where: California/Sothern Territory
What: After the land aquired during the Mexican-American War was given statehood but wanted to apply for statehood but wanted to be a free state but it would upset the balance. Then Henry Clay made a comprimise where California was a free stae and Utah and New Mexico had no Slavery Restrictions and made popular soveinty
Why: So disputes could stop. -
Fugitive Slave Act
Who: Millard Fillmore
Where: UNited Staes
What:A Act where slaves ran away and found get a harsh punishment and probably face federal punishment
Why: I dont agree with this but if I was put on their shoes I would Say "Slaves are property and belong to us" -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
Who: Stephen A. Douglas and Frankalin Pierce
Where: Kansas-Nebraska
What; The Territory wanted to be free states but some wanted to be slave states so the comprimise was where Half and Half choose between popular soveinty
Why: So the Disbute between them wont get worse -
Bleeding Kansas
Who: John Brown and John W. Geary
Where: Kansas
What: So Popular Soveirnty chose both of the states wether to be free or slave states. But Many people went to Kansas and cheated the System and became War between them.
Why:People moved just to vote for popular soverinty and caused war -
Dred Scott v. Sanford
Who: Dred Scot, John Emerson and Roger Taney
Where: Supreme Court
What: Dred Scott was entitled to their freedom after escaping slavery and this case was taken to the supreme court Dred Scott envoked the 5th Amendment but sadly didnt win
Why: He was still entitled even after his owner died -
Lincoln-Douglas Debate
Who: Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A Douglas
Where: United States
What: The Slavery issue Affected the election the Democrats chosed Douglas and the new party the Republicans chosed Lincoln. The Republicans decided with Anti-Slavery and Vice Versa.
Why: Because the Party's had 2 sides between them
