    A legal case in which the Supreme Court ruled that Dred Scott was not entitled to his freedom even though he resided in a free state. This showed that no slaves can earn their freedom when they live in a free state.

    Confederates decided to secede from the United States because Abraham Lincoln wanted States Rights and this would have majority of people choosing whether slavery should be allowed or not and it will allow slaves to be free and there will no longer be slavery.
