    Invention of the Cotton Gin
    Eli Whitney was the creator of the Cotton Gin machine. The Cotton Gin created a easier and more efficient way of removing seeds from cotton. When this machine was created it justified the southerners reasoning to want to expand how many slaves they owned. Owning more slaves would make it quicker to pick more cotton.

    The 1820 agreement called for the admissioin of Missouri as a slave state and making Maine a free state. Also, they would ban slavery in the Louisianna puchase teritory.

    Harriet Tubman was helping slaves escape from their slave owners, to seek freedom. This was an issue for the slave owners because all their slaves were running away and freeing themselves. But, this created stricter living situations for the slaves, that weren't free.

    Frederick Douglass wrote his narrative 10 years before the beggining of the Civil war. Five yeasr after the book was writen adn about 30,000 copies were sold, The amout that was sold was an issue. the more books that were sold the more people were reading it. When people were reading it his ideas adn experiences were being spread, which helped push the Civil war.

    The Free-Soil Party fought against the the expancion of slavery into the western states. Going against what the southern states wanted caused issues.The expanision of slavery was a very controversial topic in politics.

    there were many resolutions brought up by Senator Henery Clay to resolve all issues pertaining to slavery. The compromise that was made was that the slave trade in Washington would be abolished and the Fugative Slave Act was put into place.

    This Act allowed for slavehunters to capture runaway slaves and return them to their owners. This act was one of the most controversial laws put in place in the 19th century.

    This was a bill that mandated "popular sovereignty". This bill let settlers chose wether slavery in their states border would be allowed. This was a problem for people who would become slaves after they decided wether the territory would become area where slavery was allowed.

    Bleeding Kansas is the phrase used to describe the violence thhat occured in Kansas when people were setteling in that territory. Other states tried to influence Kansas' choice, to go proslavery or against it.
