    Lexington and Concord
    The battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolution. It took place near Boston. It was a war between Britain and the colonies. The colonies were tired of the rule Britain had over them.

    Formed from a convention of delegates from the thirteen colonies. They started meeting in the summer of 1775 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This group was put together in hopes for some type of a government during the American Revolutionary war.

    It took place around Breed's Hill, early in the American Revolution. New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts against Britain. In the end the British won this battle with 226 casualties.

    This document stated that the thirteen American Colonies that were at war with Britain were officially independent states. It was written by Thomas Jefferson. It was originaly written in response as to why they broke away from Britain.

    The Battle of Trenton took place near Trenton, New Jersey in December of 1776. This battle was another part of the American Revolution, which is between Britain and the thirteen colonies. The belligerents in this battle were the United States (the colonies) and Hesse- Kassel.

    The battles of Saratoga took place on September 19 and October 7, 1777. On October 17 British arms surrendered. It took place in Saratoga, New York. This was also between the colonies and Britain.

    This was a millitary camp that the Continental Army stayed at over the winter of 1777-1778 during the American Revolutionary War. It was located 20 miles from Philadelphia. There was about 2,500 people that died of starvation, disease, and exposure by the end of February.

    John Paul Jones Captures Serapis
    John Paul Jones is known as the father of the American Navy. He caught the ship H.M.S. Serapis, after winning a battle. He captured the ship and successfully transferred all his passengers onto Serapis. The ship was captured during a battle on the North Sea.

    This battle took place on October 7, 1780. This battle was also part of the American Revolution and it was between the Patriot and Loyalist militia. It took place in Kings Mountain, South Carolina.

    Britain surrendered on October 19, 1781. Since the French had joined with the Americans, the British were greatly outnumbered. Cornwallis, the leader of the British troops, knew he had to surrender.
  • Treaty of Paris Ratified

    Treaty of Paris Ratified
    On September 3, 1783 the Treaty of Paris was signed. This ended the American Revolution between American and Britain. It was signed in a hotel in Paris, France by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and John Jay. The docment was insuated to keep peace between the countries.

    On September 19, 1796 Washington published his farewell address about stepping down from presidency. The first draft of this letter was written in 1792 when he thought he would no longer be running, but did run for another term. The letter was written with the help of James Madison.
