My parents and I immigrated to Canada in February of 2002, There was an enormous culture shock, as the people and places were completely unknown.

Returning to China was a significant event in my life as I had not seen my extended family for over 4 years. This was a very memorable occasion, as my grandmother would pass away in september of the same year, and this was the last time I'd see her.

This event was my first experience of American culture. Although similar to Canada in many ways, the States felt far more busy and crowded. Visiting Times Square, the WTC ground zero, and the Statue of Liberty gave lots of insight into American history and Culture.

Although the exact time is unclear, I became a Canadian citizen in 2010. This opened my life to many more opportunities than just being a permanent resident, and it shows that I am now a fully integrated part of Canadian society.

After graduating elementary school I felt an extreme sense of freedom and responsibility. All the newfound independance had also brought on many burdens and insecurities. This was a significant turning point as I had to leave my social bubble in order to make friends and get by,

This was a time of freedom and independence. I met many new people, and learned new things. High school isn't perfect but it significantly impacted my life.

In the summer of 2011, I took a cruise with my family to the Carribean. Among the places we visited were the Florida Keys, Jamaica, and Cuba. The trip was very relaxing and memorable, and exposed me to many cultures I had not seen before.
