  • The Chanak Incident - Mythili

    Britain and Turkey were at a conflict over Chanak, a narrow strip of land that connects the Black and Aegean Seas
    The United Kingdom requested military assistance from Canada
    But only the Canadian Parliament according to the Prime Minister King could choose whether or not Canada’s troops will be dispatched
    Canada would be in charge of its own foregin policy
  • Halibut Treat - Manisha

    A treaty between the US and Canada regarding fishing rights in the Pacific Ocean
    Was the first environmental treaty created, it was created because the two countries did not want to constantly over fish from the Pacific Ocean
    This is a big development in Canada’s autonomy because this was the first treaty they had signed on their, without the need of involving Britain
    This treaty is still used today, but is now officially called the International Pacific Halibut Commission
  • The King - Byng Affair - Sama

    The King - Byng affair was a Canadian constitutional crisis that occurred in 1926.
    When the Governor General of Canada (King Byng) refused a request by his Prime Minister (Makenzie KIng) it called a general election.
    When King's minority government faced scandals and distrust resolutions early in his term, King wanted to dissolve the government and call for new elections
    The government lost its vote in the House of Commons and lasted only three days before the final election had to be held.
  • 1926 Balfour Report - Muskan

    This endeavour was led by Mackenzie King, the Canadian Prime Minister, and J.B.M. Hertzog, the South African Prime Minister at the time.
    The Imperial Conference in 1926 adopted the Balfour Declaration.
    The British Empire's Dominions were self-governing and commensurate in stature to each other and to England.
    The new institution was named The British Commonwealth of Nations.
    The Statute of Westminster, which was ratified on December 11, 1931.
