Halifax Explotion
On december 6 1917 there was a disaster that occered in Halifax,Nova Scotia with SS Mont-Blanc, a french cargo ship loaded with explosives, when it collided at slow speed with the norwegian vessel SS Imo. This created a catastrophic explotion killing 100s injuring 1000s and destroying in its path. -
Kinmel Riote
This riote happened after the war. Starting with numorous amounts of the soliders not being able to go home after the war. Not only that but they had to do meaningless exercises, medical exams and routen marches in the process. While they were staying at Kinmel park they didnt get paid at all but thats not all after the war many went broke and couldnt afford food. On top of that 4 soldiers were killed and others arrested. -
Winnipeg General Strike
This took place from May 1919- June 26 1919 when Winnipegs builiding and metel workers went on strike for higher wages and better conditions. After that a general strke was appealed. The happend because after the war many war factories were shutting down triggering bankruptice and unemployment. Those with jobs could not keep up with the prices riseing the cost of living rose by 64%.Canadians were angry,Some wanted better wages and working conditions and others just wanted jobs. -
Residential Schools
Residential schools were government-sponsored religious schools established to take in Aboriginal children into Euro-Canadian culture. They attempt to both educate and convert Aboriginal youth and to integrate them into Canadian society, residential schools disrupted lives and communities, causing long-term problems among Aboriginal peoples and harming 1000s of children they took from there homes to do expiremences on, this went on for decades before someone did anything about it. -
Cape Breton Strike
Mine workers went on strike because the terrible working conditions they faced knowing mining was one of or the worst job they could get.Many times they would work for the time they were supose to but at the end of the week they werent sure if they would get paid or not.They couldnt quite because that would mean losing possible income for there family.With this happening it left most workers very angery and they all wanted better conditions so they stopped working and went agenist the goverment.
