    Souad was born somewhere in the year of 1957-1958. She is not totally aware of her birthday to the fact that she is a girl in an extremely sexist country and a celebration was never held for her.

    At a young age Souad saw her mother pregnant with many children but never had any new siblings. In total she had 14 but only 5 survived. One day she witnessed her mother put a cloth over a new born baby and she stared with curiosity, not realising until a more mature age that her mother was suffocating her babies due to the fact that they were female and she was ashamed that she had not given birth to a son which was much more desired.

    Souad salved in the fields for her father’s farm with out pay and terrible conditions. A memory stained in her brain is that of the day she brought home an green tomato. Her father saw the unripened pant and beat her , after which he made her eat it by feeding it to her like a dog. Souad’s sister laughed at her embarrassment and fir that she was beaten as well.

    When Souad was doing her daily bread she had to attend other matters in the house (the bread was cooked in separate bake house) and she quickly forgot about tending the baked goods. She noticed smoke coming from the bake house and raced over, but by the time she got there it was too late. She had burned down the oven. When Souads father returned he was furious, so furious he beat her without mercy and shoved her face in the hot ashes.

    One of the first times Souad was actually happy and felt a sight bit of freedom was her sister Noura’s wedding. On this day the bride is dressed in an abundance of jewelry to show off the family’s welth. Souad was excited to see her first sister get married because this means it is closer for her turn to get married (the oldest must get married first and they will continue in chronological order.

    Assad, Souads order and only brother had his wedding when she was 18. It was the one of the few moments of genuine happiness she remembers experiencing in her old country. Although, she got ridiculed for being 18 and not married yet due to the fact that the average age of marriage was 14-16. After Assad’s wedding Souad stopped going to weddings because her honor was shamed too much, being 18 and not married.

    Souad had loved a her neighbour Faiez for a long time, but Arabia being a very restricting country for women she was not to talk to a man without his acknowledgment first so she admired him from her window from afar. Souad was feeling brave so she decided to let a goat loose and pretend to chase it to get his attention and that is did.     After a few rendezvous between Souad and Feiez they started to get more intimate with each other. On this day they shared a first kiss. This was the beginning of a terrible event soon to come

    This time when the two met up Souad was pressured into sex which she had no education of in the first place. She did not want to say no to Feiez in fear that he would leave her so he let him do as he pleased. It was after this engagement that they partook in intercourse several times. Souad began to miss her period. It was then that she knew she was doomed, committing one of the biggest honor crimes a woman could commit in her country she was going to have a premarital baby, punishable by death.

    Souad’s parents were soon to find out and when they did they imprisoned her in her room with a heavy locked door. It was at this point that they had a meeting with Noura’s husband Husain discussing the murder of Souad. She heard the whole thing thinking, “I heard my death sentence with my own ears.”

    Souad was taken to the hospital by the kind bystanders on the day she was burned, although her hospital treatment was little to none. It was more like a room where she was waiting to die. It was October 25th that her mother and brother visited. Her mother tired to poison her to put her out of her misery with a clear liquid but fail and she was removed from the hospital. Afterwards her brother came to see her and he kindly gave her some fruit in a bag. This was the last time she every saw her fam

    Souad felt a strand pain in her lower stomach and without any knowledge of it; she was giving birth to her son. During the process she passed out from pain and thought death was coming for her but it was not death but the start of a new life. Souad gave birth to Marouan at 7 months into pregnancy.
