George Simpson closes all HBC coastal forts except Fort Simpson
This made John McLoughlin very angry to the point where McLoughlin supported the Americans fully to take the Oregon Territory. -
Oregon Boundary Treaty
The Oregon Territory was split in two. The larger northern of the two is now mostly BC. The rest of the Oregon Territory is now Washington. James Polk, the American President, was promoting the idea so that America's border can be expanded. -

Colony of Vancouver Island established
Started off as Fort Victoria. much like the mainland, it suffered through massive debt and was united with the mainland by Britain to try and kill two birds with one stone. Shame that it didn't kill even one of them -
Gold discovered on the Thompson River
This marked the beginning of the gold rush, shame that very few people actually got rich off mining for gold. -

Cariboo Wagon Road Completed
James Douglas wanted the road built so that the gold leaving the area was taxable, however it when the gold rush ended, BC's debt just plummeted even further. -

BC is now part of Canada thanks to Anthony Musgrave who co - opted the anti - confederationists. -
CPR moves terminus to Vancouver
William Van Horne had to move the terminus because Port Moody was not the ideal place to put the terminus as the terrain was too shallow for ships
