    The reign of James the 1

    James was a strong advocate of royal absolutism and his conflicts with an increasingly self assertive Parliament set the stage for the rebellion against his successor Charles I James at one year old he became king of Scotland on July 24,1567. His mother left the kingdom on May16,1588 and never saw her son again, the young king was kept fairly isolated but was given good education until the age 14.
