The Free Soil Act affected the issues and the outcome of the election because it started to make people think what was going to happen to the land but it did not affect the election. -

Set boundaries in Utah's territories. Nobody in the North wanted the fugative slave act and no one in the South wanted new states added. -
A man by the nake of Stephen Douglas thought of the idea. He and many other people thought the West should join America. The land was split in two. The people who lived in these territories would vote for or against slavery. But later on was repeated by the Missouri Compromise. -

A group of abolitionists who were led by John Brown attacked Harpers Ferry. The United states military tried to protect it. -
President Lincoln signs the Homestead Act. This act allowed the government to grant land no more than 160 acres to people. The farmed of the act were required to cultivate the land for atleast 5 years. 10% of the land had gone to Homestead farmers in the United States of America. -
Also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing. This battle created an oppurtunity for the Union troops to infultrate the confederate interior. Many people died from this battle. -
The Union started to draft men into the army. They needed new eyes and ears. Any man from 20-45 years old could be picked to be enlisted. A man had the option to pay $300.00 for a replacement but no average man had that kind of money. -
