    -Joined the Air Force in 1955 but was dishonorably discharged three years later
    -He became a civil rights activist
    -Wanted to start being more involved because of Malcolm X' influence
    -Was in the Afro-American Association (AAA) that advocated for black separatism, but later left

    LINKBackground: born in 1942 in Monroe, LA to a farmer and preacher moved to CA to escape the discrimination in deep south close knit and loving family but very poor
    Education: Oakland technical high school
    Merritt college in Oakland
    Jobs: was an author and wrote an autobiography
    Motivations to get involved in the movement: influenced by malcolm X and meet bobby seale in college

    LINKCause: migration to west due to discrimination, the new generation faced new problems and they tried to fix them with political party

    What happened: the white people didn't like the african americans rising up so they did anything to try and stop them
    What were the effects: the party tried to better the lives of the local african american community and the party stressed non violence to show that they were humaine. Equality followed in the late 60’s

    LINKCause: Seale had a quote stating what the party wanted, but they thought there should be a definitive outline for their demands that would be easily understood
    What happened: The party began to grow due to the sophisticated outline of their views and the location they targeted
    What were the effects: This was a major step for the BPP because it was one of the first non-violent acts they preformed to ask for their rights, and a lot of people began to back them. -Gave service to all

    J. Edgar Hoover leads FBI investigations into Black Panther activities
    Cause: The Black Panthers were gaining strength with their fellow support and were seemingly more violent than the previous generation of activists.
    The FBI wrote letters back and forth to Black Panthers of power as well as their friends and family turning people against each other so people didn't know what was real and what was fake. This eventually caused paranoia, but also resilience from the activists
    effects: The Black Panthers came back strong with marches

    LINK Cause: Huey was stopped by the police in oakland, CA
    What happened: when the officer went to speak with Huey, he was shot and killed as well as critically wounding Mr. Newton
    What were the effects: Huey Newton was Charged with Murder of the officer, assault of the accompanying officer (who hadn’t moved from the patrol car), and the kidnapping of Dell Rose a child kidnapped in the area that was unsolved.

    Cause: Black Panther members saw that very young kids were not receiving breakfast before school
    What happened: Out of pure need, members of the Black Panthers decided to start a breakfast program for kids who were not getting proper nourishment before they went to try to get an education
    What were the effects: it caused the government to put programs in place to feed kids breakfast, most of which are still in place to this day.

    What problems/goals do the Black Panthers still fight for today?

    The old (not the new, not ever remotely the same thing) BPP still stands for gaining equality and fights for the rights to be equal and all services and "ammenities of sorts" to be open and free to all people
