Bay of Pigs Exile Training
Eisenhower had allowed the CIA to train Cuban rejects who had been exiled to be trained. This was for the future hopes for an invasion of Cuba, and to overthrow Castro. President Kennedy had just learned about this plan nine days after his election. He had reluctantly approved of the plan. Tensions between Russia and the US had grown exponentionally due to their aid towards Cuba. -
North American Mercenaries Defeated
Exiled supports and US troops had planned an invasion. Nothing had gone as planned. Many of their planned tactics had failed, such as the airstrike and the distraction meant for Castro's troops had all gone completely wrong. Some of the exiled were killed or imprisoned. As Cubans rejoiced this defeat over "North American mercenaries." JFK had to pay $53 million to get our remaining exiled military forces. Soviets were further hated because Cuban victory was guaranteed with their weapons. -
Summer of 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis
Castro had powerful allies from Moscow for obtaining aid. In that summer Cubans had recieved Soviet weapons. President JFK had not liked the idea of the Soviet aid towards Cuba. He had threatened that the US wouldn't tolerate such action. JFK was actually angry enough to make a statement towards the Soviet Union and the continued aid towards Cuba. -
Missiles Captured by Image in Cuba
The US had sent spy planes over towards Cuba. This had revealed that they had further Soviet aid, and that they had stationed missile bases in Cuban areas. Some of these bases contained missiles ready to launch. US stressed that these missiles could reach cities. This had taken relations turn for the worse. US was stressing over war with Cuba which would subsequently mean war with SU (Soviet Union). -
Soviet Missile Sites In Cuba
Soviets had stationed missile sites in Cuba. JFK had informed our anxious nation of this horrid situation. So we had began to plan to extinguish these sites and remove all traces of the nuclear weapons. He also stated a missile launch from Cuba would create all out war with the Soviet Union. -
Blockade in Cuba
Kennedy had gotten sick and tired of Cuban's siding with Soviets. So he had impleminted a naval lockdown of Cuba, blocking Soviet related ships. Just so they couldn't reach the small island. Halting Soviet ships
Soviet ships that were heading to Cuba were halted, This was done by the US. Because they didn't want any further Communist aid towards Cubans. This brought tensions past the line between the Soviet Union and the US. -
Proposal to Remove Weapons
After the Soviet Union had gotten tired of being halted in the sea. So they had proposed to remove the weapons from Cuba in return for no invasion of Cuba. As the US agreed to remove missiles from Turkey, but both leaders of the countries recieved criticism for this event. This had lightened tensions between the countries but they were still not on good terms and at the brink of war. The former exiled supporters had switched to the GOP and Castro closed doors for flights to and from Miami.
