    Lexington and Concord
    The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first battle of the Revolutionary War. They were fought on April 19, 1775 in Massachusetts and near Boston. This was the first actual battle between the Great Britain and its thirteen colonies. With abou 700 British Army men, under Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith, were given secret orders to capture and destroy guns and ammunition at Concord.Paul Revere and other riders spread the news which led to thier victory.

    In the Battle of Bunker Hill, British General Thomas Gage dispatched 2300 troops under Major General Howe. General Prescott led the American troops. This battle proved to the world that they could stand up to the british,The british had won the battle, yet suffered many deaths and casualties. This would be the bloodiest battle of the revolution.

    No battle was fought at Valley Forge. Yet, it was the turning point of the Revolutionary War. It was here that the Continental army was desperately against the ropes — bloody, beaten,and ready to quit. Even General Washington conceded, "If the army does not get help soon, in all likelihood it will disband." But here Baron von Steuben, a mercenary, began to transform american troops into a fighting force.

    The battle took place in Trenton, New Jersey. The American side was led by General George Washington with nearly 2400 soldiers, commanded by Major Generals, John Sullivan and Nathanael Greene. The Hessians were led by Colonel Johann Rall. Washington won at Princeton and then Trenton and gained alot of moral support.

    The battle of Yorktown,taking place on October 19, 1781, was a decisive victory by a combined force of American Continental Army troops led by General George Washington and French Army troops led by the Comte de Rochambeau over a British Army commanded by Lieutenant General Lord Cornwallis. The British were surrounded by american troops on land and french navy. The British were forced to surrender and this would conclude the Revolutionary War.

    The Treaty of Paris, signed on September 3, 1783, ended the American Revolutionary War between Great Britain on one side and the United States of America and its allies on the other. Its agreements stated that americans could settle west and trade there,aknowledged america as free, and establish boundaries. America was free!
