    Cowboys traditionally worked on ranches or on the trails. The trails they worked on were owned by their bosses. Cowboys were nothing like they are betrayed in movies. They Worked 8-12 hour days. They ranged from ages of 15-40. The average age of a cowboy was 24. 25% of cowboys were African American, 12% Mexican and the rest regular Americans. Their legs were naturally bow legged from saddle riding. Prairie fires would scare them more then Indians. In real life not in the movies the India
  • Sun Dance

    The Sun Dance was a religious ceremony which varied in the purpose and ritual from group to group. Most were held to pray for the renewal of people, to give thanks, to fulfill a vow, and to protect the people from any dangers or illnesses. Some activities included sweat purification, buffalo hunting, buffalo feasts, and dancing by participants before a sacred pole. Missionaries and government agents in the U.S. and Canada officially banned it. They forced them to discontinue the ceremonies

    Dawes Severalty Act
    The Dawes Act of 1887 also know as the Dawes Severalty Act. Policy work designed to free up western land for white settlers and acculturate American Indians to American values and practices. At the end of of the day, They didn't get no money from selling their lands. Named after the Massachusetts senator Henry L. Dawes, who headed the U.S. Senate's Committee on Indian Affairs. When the Dawes Act passed in 1887, Americans' views of native peoples varied considerably.

    Oklahoma Sooners
    In 1889 there was a huge rush to get as much land as you can and cultivate it. Major land give away in what is now Oklahoma. It attracted thousands of people in less than a day. Settlers hungry for land claimed over 2 million acres in a massive land rush.
    Some settlers took the land before the government opened it up. The got there sooner then everyone else that is why Oklahoma is the sooner state.
  • Ghost Dance

    The Sioux suffered from reduced rations, increased restrictions, and loss of their cattle due to disease. So they went to Wovoka, who had a vision that the lands were restored, buffalos were returned, and the whites disappeared. He promised that if the Native Americans performed the ritual of the Ghost Dance, then his vision would be realized.
  • Murder of Sitting Bull

    Murder of Sitting Bull
    The sitting bull and his son had been murdered by the Indian police.
    Where: standing Rock in south Dakota.
    when December 15th 1890.
    Who was involved: Indian police, sitting bull, and his followers.
    Why: the sitting bull was killed because he was the leader in the war for black hills.
    Significant: 12 adults and 18 children had been killed, 15 indian police has been killed and 2 more has been wounded had led to destruction at the hands of Sioux and Cheyenne warriors in the Battle of the Little Bi
  • Wounded Knee Massacre

    When December 29, 1890
    Why: the reason why this battle occurred was because the Indians was stripped of their traditional way of life. Bison herds was gone diseases devastated the whole entire tribes.
    Who: Indians and government officials..
    Significant: George Custer had led to destruction at the hands of Sioux and Chyenne warriors in the Battle of the little bighorn in 1876.

  • Native Assimilation and Citizenship

    Population began to formulate policies aimed toward Native America. And became the major driving force behind the U.S. Goverment. Indians occupied an unusual status under federal law. Some had acquired citizenship by marrying white men.Congress took what some saw as the final step on June 2, 1924 and granted citizenship to all Native Americans born in the United States.
