Opening of Auschwitz I
The concentration camp has been founded by Heinrich Himmler who had a special SS rank. The fist prisoniers arrived May 20th 1940. -
Gas
During the summer and fall of 1941 the gas calles Zyklon B was introduced into the German concentration camp system and used to murder people. -
Foundation of Auschwitz II
In October 1941 Auschwitz II called Auschwitz-Birkenau has been founded. Of the three Auschwitz camps built, the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp had the largest total of prisoniers. -
Crematorium
Four large crematorium buildings were constructed between March and June 1943 to get rid of all the dead bodies. -
Spliting Auschwitz
In November 1943, the SS decided that Auschwitz-Birkenau and Auschwitz-Monowitz would become independent concentration camps. -
Anne Frank
This day Anne Frank arrived at the concentration camp in Auschwitz togheter with her family and lived there until she died at the camp in early March 1945 because of health issues. -
Rebelling Prisoners
On October 7, 1944, several hundred prisoners assigned to Crematorium IV at Auschwitz-Birkenau rebelled after learning that they were going to be killed. During the uprising, the prisoners killed three guards and blew up the crematorium and adjacent gas chamber. -
End of Gasing
The gassing operations at Auschwitz-Birkenau last until November 1944. During this month the lage gas chambers and crematorium were shut down. -
New Division
In November 1944, Auschwitz II was reunified with Auschwitz I. Auschwitz III was renamed Monowitz concentration camp. -
Public Hanging
A Jewish women who had smuggled the explosives into the camp were publicly hanged in early January 1945.
