    Collective group of ASI students brainstorm possible research topics.
  • Topic Vote

    Students vote on topics they are interested in to form list of top 10 research topics.
  • Students select research groups

    After individual background research students select the topic they wish to investigate. Teams are formed and in-depth background research begins.

    Literature Review

    Groups conduct background research on their topic through a literature review. They must produce an anotated bibliography as an output. The goal is to gain understanding of the field and begin to narrow the research question.
  • Annotated Bibliography

  • Research Proposal Paper Due

    Formal paper from group laying out the research question, supporting background research, proposed research plan, proposed budget, external contacts and group member assignments.

    Research Plan Executed

    Students execute their research plan. This includes a grant proposal for budget requests to the department. Purchase of equipment. Data collection, analysis, etc.
  • Final Paper

    Formal research paper presented.
  • Period: to

    Research Groups Present Results

    The research groups present their results in a symposium style talk.
