Maine becomes a free state and Missouri becomes a slave state. Split the Lousianna Purchase along 36 30 with the North being free and the South being slave. This caused more of a division in the country, which helped led to the Civil War.

Gained fame through the Compromise of 1850. Steven Doulas was the senator from Illinois. He was responsible for the Kansas-Nebraska Act but also apart of the Democrats. Steven brought slavery to national attention.

Douglas stated that he has no problem with the supreme court. Lincoln also stated that he does not apose slavery and will not mess with fujitive slave act. This caused the war because it brought slavery to national attention.

Douglas takes credit for Kansas-Nebraska Act.Lincoln was pronounced winner between the crowds powerful cheers between the two. But than Douglas gets acused of making personal attacks at Lincoln.

The south warned that if Lincoln won then they would secede. Lincoln won. Therefor the south seceded.

Fort Sumter was attacked in 1861 on April 12th that started the war. The fort was built in 1829 and still unfinished in 1861. Stood at the enterance of the bay outside Charleston South Caroline.
