  • Balfour Declaration

    Balfour Declaration
    In 1917, the British tried to win the support of European Jews by issuing the Balfour Declaration in which the British favored the ideaof creating a "national home for the Jewish people in Palestine." It also noted that nothing will be done that may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communites in Palestine. The non-Jewish communities were Arab so when the Jews flooded into Palestine the Arabs living there became mad and tension grew leading to future conflicts.
  • Holocaust

    The Holocaust took place during World War 2 in Poland where millions of Jew were taken to concentration camps and were killed. During and after the Holocaust many Jews fled to the Holy Land where the Arabs were. The Jews invaded te Arabs land causing tension leading to hatred towards one another for many years and even into today.
  • UN Partition

    UN Partition
    The UN suggested that Palestine be split into spearate Arab and Jewish states, with Jerusalem under international control. The Jews of Palestine accepted the partition in 1947, but the Arabs rejected it and rioted by attacking the Jewish settlements. On May 14, 1948 the Jews claimed their independence and formed Israel as their new nation.
  • Six Day War

    Six Day War
    On June 5, 1967 Israel attacked Eygpt and Syria. It all took place over six days in Syria with Israel attacking Syria and Eygpt that were being peaceful. Israels attack allowed them to gain control of Golan Heights from Sryria, East Jerusalem and the West Bank from Jordan, and the Gaza Strip and Sinai Peninsula from Eygpt. This war piloted the attack by Syria and Eygpt against Israel on Yom Kippur.
  • Yom Kippur War

    On OCtober 6, 1973 Eygpt and Syria attacked the Israelis in Israel by surprise on Israels holiday, Yom Kippur. THe Israelis were able to fight back and push Eygpt and Syria back allowing them not to gain much territory. Conflicts after the war arose over years between Israel, Eygpt, and Syria because of the hatred between the nations.
  • Camp David Peace Accords

    Camp David Peace Accords
    The US Secretart of State suggested that wanted to shuttle diplomacy and bring agreement and peace between warring nations by offering them financial aid. Anwar Sadcat, the president of Eygpt accepted an invitation to address the Israeli Parliament and signed the Camp David Accords at Camp David in Maryland. Eygpt and Israel agreed to permanent peace and Eygpt got financial aid for the US.
  • Invasion of Lebanon

    Invasion of Lebanon
    in 1975 MUslim and Christain militias fought each other in Lebanon. Then in 1982 Israel invaded Southern Lebanon to stop cross-border attacks and Syria occupied Eastern Lebanon to secure its borders.
  • Intifada

    Intifada
    From 1987-1993 Intifadas took place in the Middle East. Palestines would demand an end to the Israeli occupation and young Palestinians would throw and shoot stones at Israeli troops. Also Palestinians would suicide bomb and open fire on the Israeli troops. Many conflicts arose and people predict with all of the instability that more intifadas could occur in the future.
