    Columbus finds America

    When Chistopher Columbus first steped onto the shores of America, he changed the fate of the entire world. By discovering this new world, columbus not only showed Europeans that they could reach land by sailing west, but he also exposed the Americas to the Europeans which forever changed the two continents.

    Columbian Exchange cont.

    The old world gained many new things from the triangle trade system as well. Precious metals were introduced to Europe allowing them to form new curencies. The disease syphilis was introduced to the old world as well, however it did not kill as many Europeans as Native Americans died from disease. Most importantly, a new variety of crops were introduced into the old world, causing a huge population boost in Europe and Africa.

    The Columbian Exchange, or triangle trade system is formed

    The Columbian Exchange refers to the exhange of items between "the old world" and "the new world." This swapping of items had many effects on the entire planet. The Americas obtained new crops which forever altered some economies,livestock such as horses, cattle, and pigs which drastically changed the cultures of the Americas, and most importantly the new world gained variouse diseases from Europeans, which klled millions of Native Americans and left their land open for the taking.

    Spanish Colonization Begins

    The Spanish Conquistadores quickly capitalized on the oportunity in front of them as they colonized what is today Latin America. Because the Spanish colonized this reagon they not only greatly impacted the culture of South America, but also destroyed the Native American culture. Spain also established themselves as the most dominate power in the world by doing this.

    The English Protestant Reformation

    The major religion in Great Britian changed from being Catholic to Protestant.This change is what caused England to begin colonization. England attempted to colnize the Americas because they were now protestant and they wished to compete with catholic Spain. The reformation also established churches within England that wished to come to the new world to avoid persecution. Without the Protestant Reformation, England would have never started to colonize.
  • The British Colonial Succsess

    England begins to create succsessful colonies in the Americas. These British Colonies drastically affected the culture of the Atlantic Coast, and all of America today. The original English colonies became sucsessful due to their large cash crops, mainly tobacco which caused the British to want more land to establish more farms and make more money.
  • French Colonization

    The French sucsessfuly establish colonies throughout what is today Canada, and the Mississippi River area. These French colonies establish a culture in these regions that is still seen today. The French colonies had economic sucsess with the fur trade, which causes France to want more land.
  • The Headright System was introduced to the Colonies

    The Headright System was a system in which rich landowners profited by paying for an indentured servants pasage to America. This system allowed for large plantation owners to come to power in the south and drastically effected Southern culture as well as establish it's social structure.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    The Rebellion was caused by angry landless whites who were unhappy with their life in America. This Rebellion caused plantation owners to look for a less rebellious work force. The Rebellion eventually lead to the importation of African Slaves in America, which drastically affected American Culture throughout history.
  • Great Britian Begins it's Policy of Salutary Neglect

    England begins to give little attention to the colonial government, which causes the seeds of revoulution to form in the colonies. Because Britian had been useing this policy for so long in it's colonies, when England tries to change it's policy, and impose a tighter controle of colonial affairs the colonists become outraged.
  • The 7 Years War

    The Seven Years War was the first war fought all the way around the world.The conflict caused many major events to happen in colonial America. The Albany Congress formed because of the war and was the first sign of self government in the Americas. France lost almost all of it's colonies which halted any further French impact on American Developement. Through the war England obtained all of Canada and solidifired itself at the dominate world power.

    Finally the colonists gained confidence in their military aility, which led to them feeling like they could obtain independence from Great Britian.
