  • Mexican American War

    Begining of the Mexican American War. America sought to expand westward and gain new territory. There was a boarder dispute between America and Mexico.

    End of the Mexiican American War.Mexico recognizes the Rio Grande as Southern Boarder of the US. America gains California and New Mexico.
  • Compromise of 1850

    CA is a free state. New Mexico and Utah are decided by popular soverienty. Slave trade is baned in DC. Strengthened fugative slave law is put in place.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    Allowed Kansas and nebraska to decide themselves weather they were to be free or slave states. Is found to be a violation of the Missouri Compromise.
  • John Browns Raid on Harpers Ferry

    John Brown takes matters into his own hands and attacks people who supported slavery. Seen as a martyer and as a crazy man.
  • LIncon Elected

    Moderate but is seen as an abolitionist by the southern states.
  • South Carolina Seccedes

    South Carolina seccedes form the union. First to do so.
  • Confederate States of America is Established

    Southern States Unite and form a seperate nation.
  • Start of the Civil War

    Battle of Fort Sumter. Fought in South Carolina. First battle of the Civil War.
  • Emancimation Proclimation

    Freed all slaves in states that opposed the union. It did not end slavery in America.
  • Battle of Ghetteysburg

    North beggins to win the civil war. South has to defend themselves and hope the North dies off.
  • Freedmans Buerau

    Agency established to help and support newly freed slaves.
  • End of the Civil Wr

    Sherman defeats Lee and Lee surrenders.
  • 13th Ammendment

    Abolished Slavery
  • 14th Ammendment

    Granted citizenship to Slaves
  • 15th Ammendment

    Slaves had the right to vote.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1875

    Prohibited the public descrimination of African Americans, and prohibited courts from excluding African Americans
  • Inaguration of RB Hayes

    When RB Hayes was inagurated, he removed all federal troops in the south by the Compromise of 1877. This is known as the end to reconstruction.
