The Emancipation Proclamation is what officially in writing freed all slaves. It was applied to the states that had seceded from the rest of the United States. Since President Lincoln had professed that all slaves were to be freed the southern states were supposed to free them. The Little Rock Nine were a group of nine African American teenagers that were set to enter into Little Rock's high school amongst the white students that were already attending the school. But everyday that they attempted to enter the school they were harassed by an angry mob. But on September 25 President Eisenhower assigned U.S Army troops to guard and guide the group into school. The Montgomery Bus Boycott was almost over a year-long protest and boycott conducted after Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white man, and was later arrested. Key individual is Rosa Parks. -
Even though African Americans had been free for many years they were still treated poorly. They were segregated from other races. But in 1964 The Civil Rights Act of 1964 had banned segregation in businesses. It also banned any types of discriminatory acts in employment. Key players in this event are African Americans. -
George Floyd was murdered by a white police officer in May of 2020 after an employee working at a convenience store claimed that Floyd had paid with counterfeit money. Three police officers then pinned him down, not allowing him to breathe. This later led to his death. His death sparked the movement: Black Lives Matter. Key individuals are George Floyd, and the African American community, and police officers.
