Adams the has to run against Adams in the House of Representatives. Adams gains Clay's support by promising him a gov. job if he wins the election. The Tariff of 1828 was passed and it placed tax on imported goods. This act hurt the southern colonies because they traded with Europe not with money, but with goods. South Carolina said they could nullify this law and threatened to seceed from th union. Jackson finally gave in on the Compromise of 1833.
