    Andrew Jackson was born in the Waxhaw region between North and South Carolina. His mother gave birth to him after traveling across the Appalachain mountions where she buried her husband that died three weeks before Jackson's birth.

    Andrew Jackson was running aginst John Quincy Adams. Jackson won the popular vote, but no one won the majority of the electorial votes so the House of Reps. had to decide. Henry Clay who had come in 4th place was the Speaker of the House and he had a lot of influence on who would win. When Adams won Jackson thought CLay and him had made a deal in private and called it a "corrupt bargain".

    Andrew Jackson ran for president again in 1828. The only other canidate was John Quincy Adams, who had a very unpopular presidency. Thsi election was barley abou the national issues, the people focoused on the men's personalities. Jackson won by a landslide.

    In 1828 Congress passed a protective tariff, the highest tariff in history, and it hurt the southerners hard. The people of the south shipped a Europe a lot and bought good from them also, so when the tax was passed it made them pay even more. Many thought it was unconsitutional and call the the Tariff of Abominations. South Caroline was most upset about this tax and passed the Nullifacation Act, which delcared the tariff illegal, the state also threatened to secede if nothing was done.
